4th Year Undergraduate Project - Group | 2020
Beirut, Lebanon
The urban underground holds untapped potential to enhance contemporary life. Beyond serving merely as infrastructure, it often remains overlooked and marginalized. Can we challenge the perception of the subsurface as a dark and ominous space and instead leverage its inherent qualities to establish new programs that enrich urban life above ground? Through an experimental approach to underground spaces, we propose a transformative endeavor: creating an educational institution within the city, an extension of the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts. The underground scene is reimagined through exploring light, materials, and anthropological interventions, reigniting the age-old duel between humanity and nature.
